Adaptation to oxygen deficiency
Excess oxygen in the body forms free radicals. These are positively charged and attract negatively
charged electrons to become neutral. This gives a chain reaction of increasingly free radicals in the body that causes disease and aging. We can get antioxidants from food, in the form of vitamin C and vitamin E, selenium, etc. But it is not always sufficient enough to stop the chain reaction. A way more effective antioxidant is breathing with hypoxia. Hypoxia increases the cellular susceptibility to hormones and the hormones have among others an anti-oxidative effect.
Most people breathe about 12 breaths per minute. But if we reduce the number of breaths per minutes we will create a shortage of oxygen that reduces free radicals. By practicing the breathing exercises we can gradually come down to eight breaths per minute. Breathing less is also a way to save energy. The body creates and consumes constant energy, and breathing is what requires most energy in the whole body.
It may sound strange to save energy on something as basal as breathing, when most people are on the lookout for new ways to burn calories. Exercise and eating less can of course be good for both health and figure. But we can think differently and instead use the body energy for the right things and in an economical manner. The key is to restore the body’s natural mechanisms.
If the system is working properly, we will burn fat without having to worry about the calories. If we breathe less, we will also save energy by the fact that the body temperature will get lower. Normally, the body needs a temperature of 36.6 degrees for its processes. But if the body itself is more active and all processes are working well, your “inner caretaker” is able to cut down on body heat as it does not need as much energy to keep the system running. It can make a very big difference. Japanese researchers say that 1 ° C lower body temperature may prolong life by up to 50 years. You also get a better immune system for free. The liver manufactures an ecological protection, a kind of enzymes called the cytochrome 450, which protects the body against disease and
allergies. Various health problems decrease the liver’s enzyme production. However, hypoxia increases the production of cytochrome the 450. Getting used to less oxygen is thus a way to open resources on many levels.
